The next three months will be like a roller-coaster! Saying goodbye to the people I have come to love here in Phoenix. Saying hello to family and friends back home in South-Africa. Saying goodbye to family and friends. Saying hello to PNG and its people. It is a bitter-sweet time that awaits, with uncertainties, joys, sadness, blessings and changes…
There is a verse that I keep at heart, and that’s Isaiah 26:3-4 – “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, for he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” God doesn’t promise peace to the one whose eyes are zoned in on the circumstances. He promises peace to the one who trusts Him, whose mind STAYS on Him.
What does that mean? Just thinking about the name “God” (as though a magic formula) and feeling better? No, it is far more glorious than that. It is thinking upon and believing WHO Scripture says He is, His very character. He IS sovereign, good, just, wise, kind and faithful, and He is so relentlessly from everlasting to everlasting! And so I wish to trust in who He is, not just in this season, but FOREVER. Our God is the everlasting ROCK, the constant and stable One, even amid swaying circumstances.
Here is one of my absolute favorite hymns, one of my “go to’s” when I see my need to trust God better. I’m sure I don’t have to convince you that we need Divine help in order to stay our minds on Him! So let us continuously tell one another about Who our glorious God is, and pray for me – that I will fix my eyes on my God and Father, now, and forever.
